Layne D. Hoekema

About
Layne
Layne brings more than 30 years of experience advising business owners and families through life’s most significant financial transitions. From business succession and ownership changes to liquidity events and generational wealth transfer, Layne focuses on guiding clients through moments where the stakes are highest and the decisions are most complex. His work centers on families with closely held businesses, often valued at over $25 million, who are preparing for or actively navigating inflection points, such as a sale, a recapitalization, or a leadership transition.
Layne brings clarity and structure to these pivotal seasons, aligning investment strategy, tax planning, estate design, and charitable intent into a unified, forward-looking plan. Known for his steady, relational approach, Layne serves as a central advisor—coordinating closely with attorneys, CPAs, and other professionals to ensure each decision fits within the broader context of both the business and the family. He helps clients define priorities, navigate trade-offs, and make disciplined decisions during times that are often both financially and emotionally complex.
A defining aspect of Layne’s perspective is his personal connection to the entrepreneurial journey. Having grown up in a family business founded by his grandfather and later led by his father and uncle, he understands firsthand the complexities of ownership, legacy, and intergenerational transition. This experience shapes how he advises families, helping them think through what their wealth means, how it should be stewarded, and the legacy they want to leave behind. Layne integrates biblically grounded wisdom into his advisory work, helping clients align financial decisions with deeply held values, generosity goals, and long-term purpose.
Outside of his work, Layne’s greatest priority is his family. He and his wife are raising their four children. He serves on the financial oversight committee at his church, enjoys biking with friends, and watching his kids play lacrosse. These commitments not only ground him personally but also reinforce the perspective he brings to his clients—helping them pursue success in ways that are meaningful not just financially, but across the whole of life.
